History of Ajmer Dargah of Khwaja Garib Nawaz – Moinuddin Chishti History

Ajmer Dargah Sharif is a very grand and attractive tomb of Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti. It is also called as Khwaja Garib Nawaz Dargah. Let us tell you that Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti was a famous Sufi saint as well as an Islamic scholar and philosopher.

His fame as a great preacher of Islam also spread throughout the world. He propagated his great ideas and teachings and was also considered the founder of Islam in India. He was also known as Khwaja Garib Nawaz. Due to his amazing and miraculous powers, he became very popular even among the Mughal emperors.

It is believed that between 1192 and 1195, he came on a visit to India from Medina, he wanted to receive blessings from Muhammad in India. After coming to India, Khwaja Sahib initially stayed in Delhi for a few days and then went to Lahore. , and finally he came to Ajmer with Muizz al-Din Muhammad and was greatly impressed by the reality here. His great sermons and teachings left a deep impact on people and they became his followers. This great Sufi saint, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, at the age of about 114 years, locked himself in a room for about 6 days to pray to God in solitude and left his mortal body in Ajmer itself.

Nizam Gate – Nizam Gate Ajmer

This is the most beautiful and attractive door among the four main doors built in Ajmer Dargah Sharif, which is towards the main market. This grand gate was built by Mir Osman Ali Khan of Hyderabad Deccan. The width of this huge gate is about 24 feet and height is 70 feet.

Darwaja Nakkarkhana

Nakarkhana is also among the four main doors built in the Dargah of Khwaja Sahib, which was built by the Mughal emperor Shahjahan. It is built using the oldest architecture. There is a royal era carving on top of this grand gate. This door is also famous by the name of Nakkarkhana Shahjahani.

Jannati Darwaza

In the Dargah of Ajmer Sharif, there is a very beautiful silver polished grand door on the west side, which is famous by the name of Jannati Darwaza. This door of the Dargah is opened only 4 times a year on special occasions. Chaar Yaar Mazar Ajmer

There is a very big graveyard near the Jama Masjid in the Dargah of Ajmer Sharif, where the graves of many great Sufis, Fakirs, Aalims and Fazils are buried. At the same time, in this cemetery, there are graves of those four saints who had come to India with Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, hence it is also called Char Yaar Ki Mazar. Akbari Masjid – Akbari Masjid

Akbari Mosque was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar when he was blessed with a son in the form of Jahangir. Actually, Mughal Emperor Akbar had prayed for the son Ratna at the Dargah of Khwaja Garib Nawaz, while after the birth of Jahangir, he was about 437 km from Agra. After walking a long distance, he came to this Dargah barefoot and offered Ziyarat and at that time Akbar ordered the construction of this mosque.

Two big cauldrons kept in Ajmer Dargah Sharif:

Two very big cauldrons are kept inside the famous Dargah of Ajmer Sharif, the big cauldron was gifted by the Mughal emperor Akbar after winning the battle with Chittorgarh, while the smaller cauldron was gifted by Jahangir.

Mehfilkhana or Shamkhana:

In the hall Mehfil-e-Samaan or Mehfilkhana of Ajmer Sharif, very beautiful heart touching qawwalis are sung by Sufi singers after the daily prayers, which the devotees coming here can enjoy. Apart from this, other monuments including Sundali Mosque, Auliya Mosque, Babafirid’s Chili, Bibi Hafiz Jamal’s Mazar are also built in this Dargah of Khwaja Garib Nawaz.

By Air:

The nearest airport to Ajmer is the Jaipur International Airport, located about 135 kilometres away. From the airport, you can hire a taxi, or cab or take a bus to reach Ajmer Dargah very easily.

By Train:

Ajmer Junction is a major railway station, well-connected to various cities across India. Trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, and other major cities regularly ply to Ajmer and this is one of the best modes to reach Ajmer Dargah.

By Road:

Ajmer is well-connected by road to major cities in Rajasthan and neighbouring states. State-run buses and private coaches operate regular services to Ajmer. You can also opt for a taxi or drive to Ajmer via the well-maintained highways.

Rules of Ajmer Dargah Sharif

No person can go to Khwaja’s tomb with his head uncovered.

It is strictly prohibited to carry any kind of bag or luggage for visiting the shrine. Along with this, there is also a ban on carrying a camera inside the Ajmer Dargah.

It is not allowed to enter the door of Khwaja without cleaning hands and feet, the devotees coming here have to first clean their hands and feet in the Jahalara present here.
